1 καὶ ἐξήγαγέν με εἰς τὴν αὐλὴν τὴν ἐξωτέραν κατὰ ἀνατολὰς κατέναντι τῆς πύλης τῆς πρὸς βορρᾶν καὶ εἰσήγαγέν με καὶ ἰδοὺ ἐξέδραι πέντε ἐχόμεναι τοῦ ἀπολοίπου καὶ ἐχόμεναι τοῦ διορίζοντος πρὸς βορρᾶν 2 ἐπὶ πήχεις ἑκατὸν μῆκος πρὸς βορρᾶν καὶ τὸ πλάτος πεντήκοντα πήχεων 3 διαγεγραμμέναι ὃν τρόπον αἱ πύλαι τῆς αὐλῆς τῆς ἐσωτέρας καὶ ὃν τρόπον τὰ περίστυλα τῆς αὐλῆς τῆς ἐξωτέρας ἐστιχισμέναι ἀντιπρόσωποι στοαὶ τρισσαί 4 καὶ κατέναντι τῶν ἐξεδρῶν περίπατος πηχῶν δέκα τὸ πλάτος ἐπὶ πήχεις ἑκατὸν τὸ μῆκος καὶ τὰ θυρώματα αὐτῶν πρὸς βορρᾶν 5 καὶ οἱ περίπατοι οἱ ὑπερῷοι ὡσαύτως ὅτι ἐξείχετο τὸ περίστυλον ἐξ αὐτοῦ ἐκ τοῦ ὑποκάτωθεν περιστύλου καὶ τὸ διάστημα οὕτως περίστυλον καὶ διάστημα καὶ οὕτως στοαί 6 διότι τριπλαῖ ἦσαν καὶ στύλους οὐκ εἶχον καθὼς οἱ στῦλοι τῶν ἐξωτέρων διὰ τοῦτο ἐξείχοντο τῶν ὑποκάτωθεν καὶ τῶν μέσων ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς 7 καὶ φῶς ἔξωθεν ὃν τρόπον αἱ ἐξέδραι τῆς αὐλῆς τῆς ἐξωτέρας αἱ βλέπουσαι ἀπέναντι τῶν ἐξεδρῶν τῶν πρὸς βορρᾶν μῆκος πήχεων πεντήκοντα 8 ὅτι τὸ μῆκος τῶν ἐξεδρῶν τῶν βλεπουσῶν εἰς τὴν αὐλὴν τὴν ἐξωτέραν πηχῶν πεντήκοντα καὶ αὗταί εἰσιν ἀντιπρόσωποι ταύταις τὸ πᾶν πηχῶν ἑκατόν 9 καὶ αἱ θύραι τῶν ἐξεδρῶν τούτων τῆς εἰσόδου τῆς πρὸς ἀνατολὰς τοῦ εἰσπορεύεσθαι δ{I'} αὐτῶν ἐκ τῆς αὐλῆς τῆς ἐξωτέρας 10 κατὰ τὸ φῶς τοῦ ἐν ἀρχῇ περιπάτου καὶ τὰ πρὸς νότον κατὰ πρόσωπον τοῦ νότου κατὰ πρόσωπον τοῦ ἀπολοίπου καὶ κατὰ πρόσωπον τοῦ διορίζοντος ἐξέδραι 11 καὶ ὁ περίπατος κατὰ πρόσωπον αὐτῶν κατὰ τὰ μέτρα τῶν ἐξεδρῶν τῶν πρὸς βορρᾶν καὶ κατὰ τὸ μῆκος αὐτῶν καὶ κατὰ τὸ εὖρος αὐτῶν καὶ κατὰ πάσας τὰς ἐξόδους αὐτῶν καὶ κατὰ πάσας τὰς ἐπιστροφὰς αὐτῶν καὶ κατὰ τὰ φῶτα αὐτῶν καὶ κατὰ τὰ θυρώματα αὐτῶν 12 τῶν ἐξεδρῶν τῶν πρὸς νότον καὶ κατὰ τὰ θυρώματα ἀ{P'} ἀρχῆς τοῦ περιπάτου ὡς ἐπὶ φῶς διαστήματος καλάμου καὶ κα{T'} ἀνατολὰς τοῦ εἰσπορεύεσθαι δ{I'} αὐτῶν 1 Then he took me into the outer court again, the northern part of it, and would have me enter the parlours that lay there, close to the pavilion and to the northern side of the temple.[1] 2 The long side of them, facing the north door, was a hundred cubits, the breadth fifty; 3 between the twenty-cubit close of the inner court, and the paving of the outer, they rose, gallery upon gallery, three storeys in all. 4 In front of them was a walk ten cubits wide, encroaching on the inner court by one cubit;[2] all their doors faced the north. 5 Here, the top rooms were narrower, since they must make room for porticos at the side, built out over the two lower storeys; 6 these three-storeyed parlours had no columns in front of them, like the parlours in the outer court,[3] but made up for it by porticos that rose from the roof of the first two floors, filling in the width of the fifty cubits. 7 Inner parlours faced outer only with fifty cubits of their wall’s length; 8 in the outer court, the parlours were but fifty cubits long, whereas those beside the temple were a hundred. 9 These inner parlours were entered from below at their eastern end, from the outer court. … in the thickness of the court’s eastern wall 10 … opposite the pavilion, and here too there were parlours close to the pavilion.[4] 11 Southern parlours, like northern, had a walk in front of them; had the same length and breadth, were entered by doors of the same kind; 12 the doors of these parlours opened on a walk along their southern side, and the main entrance was approached at the eastern end, from the walk that faced the hall and the close.
13 καὶ εἶπεν πρός με αἱ ἐξέδραι αἱ πρὸς βορρᾶν καὶ αἱ ἐξέδραι αἱ πρὸς νότον αἱ οὖσαι κατὰ πρόσωπον τῶν διαστημάτων αὗταί εἰσιν αἱ ἐξέδραι τοῦ ἁγίου ἐν αἷς φάγονται ἐκεῖ οἱ ἱερεῖς υἱοὶ Σαδδουκ οἱ ἐγγίζοντες πρὸς κύριον τὰ ἅγια τῶν ἁγίων καὶ ἐκεῖ θήσουσιν τὰ ἅγια τῶν ἁγίων καὶ τὴν θυσίαν καὶ τὰ περὶ ἁμαρτίας καὶ τὰ περὶ ἀγνοίας διότι ὁ τόπος ἅγιος 14 οὐκ εἰσελεύσονται ἐκεῖ πάρεξ τῶν ἱερέων οὐκ ἐξελεύσονται ἐκ τοῦ ἁγίου εἰς τὴν αὐλὴν τὴν ἐξωτέραν ὅπως διὰ παντὸς ἅγιοι ὦσιν οἱ προσάγοντες καὶ μὴ ἅπτωνται τοῦ στολισμοῦ αὐτῶν ἐν οἷς λειτουργοῦσιν ἐν αὐτοῖς διότι ἅγιά ἐστιν καὶ ἐνδύσονται ἱμάτια ἕτερα ὅταν ἅπτωνται τοῦ λαοῦ 13 These parlours, he told me, built to north and south beside the pavilion, are hallowed precincts, where the priests who sacrifice to the Lord may eat what is set apart for holy uses. All that is set apart, all the offerings made for fault and for wrong done, shall there be laid out, as on holy ground. 14 Nor, entering it, shall the priests leave it for the inner court all at once; here they must lay aside their vestments, for these, too, are hallowed, and put on other clothes before ever they mingle with the people.
16 Along the eastern side his reed measured five hundred cubits; 17 five hundred cubits along the northern side, 18 and five hundred cubits along the southern; 19 westwards, too, the measure of it was five hundred cubits. 20 All round the four quarters of the wind he would measure it, five hundred cubits in length as in breadth, this boundary between things sacred and things profane.
